Required Job Skills

  • Working experience in managing integrated software and engineering projects involved in design, test, maintenance or operation of shipboard or land-based software systems and equipment that primarily deal with Navigation Systems as well as HM&E monitoring and control systems.
  • Working experience in engineering and logistic projects involving development maintenance of HM&E logistics technical data. Working knowledge of Command Naval Air Force, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Naval Shipyard, Supervisor of Shipbuilding, and Type Commanders’ organizations or similar within the Navy.
  • Project/Contract management related to Contract execution and reporting.

Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF) Certification baseline qualifications:

Job Description: QED Systems, Inc. is seeking a person for full time employment to provide logistic support for the Ford class aircraft carrier launch and recovery systems.

This position is to provide onsite, in port or at sea aviation technical assistance in operating and maintaining the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launching Systems (EMALS) and the Advanced Arresting Gear System (AAG).  

During the performance of this position, provide operational and technical support to investigators in the event of an incident causing damage to aircraft or equipment.  

Provide operational and technical support to AMMT and accompany same during ALREMP inspections.  

Provide engineering analysis and technical guidance for TYCOM and repair activities.

Provide planning for continuous improvement of the ALRE Systems as determined by ship’s work request and scheduled availabilities, maintaining timelines for ALRE systems repairs to be reviewed by CNAL N43, SIO, and TYCOM staff planning.

Perform liaison functions with various command at all levels of authority regarding procedures and quality of ALRE maintenance.

Provide input at meetings or discussions conducted by Ship’s Force, TYCOM, NAVAIR, and repair activities pertaining to procedures, problems, and technology associated with ALRE Systems.

Provide support to TYCOM staff in developing work packages for ship’s maintenance availabilities and perform ship checks to validate requested work.  In addition to the forgoing, assist ALRE maintenance officers on board Ford class aircraft carriers in the planning and execution of approved work packages.

Job Duties:

  • Conduct ship checks and provide waterfront engineering support on a pier-side or dry docked CVN68 Class naval ship. The ship may be in maintenance availability at Naval Station Norfolk, or at Newport News HII Shipyard. 
  • Must be strongly familiar with Navy ship maintenance of CVN68 Class in one or more areas of Combat Systems, Topside (Non-Propulsion) Systems, Aircraft Launch and Recovery (ALRE) Systems, Power and Lighting Systems, Auxiliary Cooling Systems, Ventilation Systems and other Mechanical, Electrical or Structural components.
  • Review AIT/CCT Plan of Action and Milestones for accuracy and completeness.  Visit shipboard work sites to resolve waterfront engineering problems.  Provide overall engineering support to the Project Team as an onsite waterfront engineering support team.
  • Assist in integration of AIT/CCT repairs during the RCOH availability.  Review work sequence, drawings and specifications to understand scope and technical requirements. 
  • Support performance testing and qualification of electrical, mechanical and combat systems interface components.

Job Requirements/Skill Sets:

Candidate shall have 10-15 years of experience with one or more areas of Combat Systems, Topside Non-Propulsion Systems, Aircraft Launch and Recovery (ALRE) Systems, Power and Lighting Systems, Auxiliary Cooling, Ventilation and other Mechanical, Electrical, Structural components.

  • Knowledge of U.S. Navy ship systems and/or prior Navy shipboard maintenance experience is necessary.

Job Title: Ship Availability Analyst

Job Description: Availability Analyst; Engineering Services Virginia (ESVA) responsible for the development of a structured analysis of all or part of ship availability work package requirements; developing manpower estimates, constructing workflow charts and diagrams; studying system requirements; determining potential work conflicts, loading of trades, and events on a not-to-interfere sequence utilizing government and industrial data bases, such as Navy Maintenance Database (NMD), Navy Data Environment (NDE), and Naval Ships Engineering Drawing Repository (NSEDR), to obtain information for government availability packages. The Analyst will provide specialized marine industrial management consulting services to government activities. These services may include, but are not limited to, analyses of program management or project management requirements used for successful completion of availability work packages. The Analyst is responsible for conducting workload analysis, work process analysis resulting in developing risk mitigation strategies, with respect to schedule milestones, identification of the critical path, controlling work path, and potential integration problem areas of the availability package and The Analyst will identify problems, i.e. work conflicts (space), trade overloads (personnel) and resource availability (equipment and material), to find potential problems that could be resolved prior to execution of the work.
Job Duties:

  • Develops man-day estimates (by trade) by reviewing reference documents.
  • Performs engineering mechanical field services such as ship checks, equipment surveys and inspections.  Develop reports of services performed, conditions found and recommendations in sufficient detail appropriate to the task.  Travel out of the local area could involve 10% per year.
  • Develops structured analysis of assigned ship availability maintenance and modernization requirements; constructing workflow charts and diagrams; studying system requirements; identifying conflicts in work sequences, material availability and resource loading.
  • Determines duration requirements by evaluating overall ship maintenance & modernization work package contents using information gathered from various databases, reports, discussions and other sources.
  • Defines duration requirements, identifying project Milestones, Key Events, and other elements.
  • Recommends mitigation strategies for identified problem areas i.e. work conflicts (space), trade overloads (personnel), resource availability (equipment and material) and presenting alternative solutions to conflicts.
  • Maintains user confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential, i.e. business and government sensitive information to remain confidential through NDA for the protection of both the organization and the customer.
  • Analyze technical engineering, logistics or computer data received or collected.
  • Prepares technical reports with graphic displays by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; lays out availability timelines to include required milestones, identification of critical path, controlling path, and potential problem areas, by spoken and written word.
  • Coordinates the activities of other engineering specialists/analysts who may be assigned in the collection or assembly of necessary technical data.
  • Perform duties as team leader for complex projects as assigned.

Job Requirements / Skillsets:

  • Detailed knowledge of Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM) requirements (E2E processes)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. He or she will be required to interface with diverse groups of people inside and outside of the organization
  • Detailed understanding of US Naval Ship Maintenance and Modernization processes, cycles and objectives
  • Detailed knowledge of shipyard industrial processes

  • Identifies the need for, supervises and conducts safety  and environmental protection training programs.
  • Provides by direct intervention, and skilled leadership, accident investigation and follow up including root cause analysis and prevention.
  • Acts as the Training Coordinator.  Maintains the training database and identifies needs and schedules individuals to ensure certifications and qualifications to not lapse.

Job Requirements / Skill Sets: The candidate must successfully demonstrate the skills and ability to install and fit parts on ship.  Locate position of pieces by references to water lines, center lines, frame lines, buttock lines and other reference points.  Set parts in proper position with assistance from Rigger.  Align and adjust parts using jacks, turnbuckles, shorting, saddles, clips wedges, mauls and hammers.  Line up parts for welding or riveting, install temporary fasteners a required.  Mark holes to be drilled.  Install packing, gaskets, liners and similar items where necessary.  Straighten distorted parts using heating torches, mauls and sledge hammers.  Remove and repair or replace damaged parts of ships structure.  The individual must also be able to read, interpret, and follow blue prints or technical drawings.  A SECRET Security Clearance is highly desired but is not required.
