The NDT Level II reports directly to the National City Quality Assurance (QA) Manager and West Coast Level III NDT Examiner and conducts NDT Visual (VT) weld inspections aboard US Navy ships ensuring compliance with NAVSEA Drawings or applicable Military Standards: MIL-STD-1689A, MIL-STD-2035, MIL-STD-22D, 0900-LP-001-7000, S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248, and S9074-AR-GIB-010/278. The NDT Level II coordinates, accepts, and rejects NDT inspections and checkpoints with trades, sub-contractors, and customers. The NDT Level II performs in-process weld surveillances in accordance with NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248.
Job Requirements / Skill Sets:
The candidate must have at least two years of documented work experience, classroom hours, and on-the-job training in the ship repair industry and must have current or recent qualification as an NDT (VT) Level II (or equivalent). Additional qualifications in other NDT methods, such as Penetrant Testing (PT) are a plus. Familiarity with ABS or AWS requirements would be a plus. Qualification as an NBPI or NACE paint inspector would be a plus. Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items would be a plus.
The candidate must be able to understand complex work specification requirements and to read and interpret NAVSEA drawings and technical documents.
The candidate must be a U.S. citizen, have a High School Diploma or equivalent, possess a valid Driver License, have reliable transportation, be able to climb vertical & inclined ladders to access work areas aboard US Navy ships, be able to work in confined spaces, be physically able to work aboard ship under varying environmental conditions (heat & humidity), and comply with OSHA safety regulations.
