Job Description: The NDT Level III Examiner reports to the Quality Manager, oversees the NDT program, and conducts NDT inspections of welds in the QED shop and at remote work sites aboard US Navy ships.
Conduct NDT Visual (VT) and Dye Penetrant (PT) weld inspections ensuring compliance with NAVSEA Drawings and Military Standards, such as: NAVSEA Technical Publication 271, MIL-STD-1689A, MIL-STD-2035, MIL-STD-22D, 0900-LP-001-7000, S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248, and S9074-AR-GIB-010/278. Accomplish in-process inspections in the shop and at remote work sites.
Oversee performance of and train NDT Level II Inspectors assigned to the QED National City location. Maintain the Welder Performance Qualification Records (WPQRs) of welders and braziers assigned to the QED National City location. Maintain the Weld Procedure and NDT Practices Library and update those Procedures, when required. Assist the Quality Manager in the drafting of Test and Inspection Plans (TIPs) and Test and Inspection Records (TIRs).
Job Requirements / Skill Sets:
The candidate must have a current or recent qualification as an NDT Level III Examiner (NAVSEA or equivalent) in the VT method. Current or recent qualification as an NDT Level III in the PT method is a plus. Documentation of prior NDT work experience, on-the-job training, and classroom hours is required. Certification as a NBPI or NACE paint inspector is a plus.
The candidate must be a U.S. citizen, have a High School Diploma or equivalent, possess a valid Driver License, have reliable transportation, be able to climb vertical/inclined ladders to access work areas aboard US Navy ships, be physically able to work aboard ship under varying environmental conditions (heat & humidity), and comply with OSHA safety regulations.
